Hostinger AI Credits: What 5 Credits Actually Buys You
Hostinger AI credits are the prompting currency of the builder's conversational mode. They are spent every time you create or edit a project through the AI chat, and they are the one part of the plan comparison where the smaller number on the page is doing more work than it looks. Premium includes five. Unlimited and Cloud Startup include fifteen. Cloud Startup adds twenty credits for the separate Hostinger Agent features.
The detail that changes the arithmetic entirely: these are described as a one-time gift, not a recurring allowance. They do not refill next month. A four-year Premium term comes with five credits for the whole term, not five a month for forty-eight months.
What one credit is worth
Hostinger does not publish a per-action price list, which is reasonable — the cost of a generation varies with what you asked for. What it does publish is a rule of thumb: simpler projects consume roughly five to ten credits, and complex web apps fifteen or more on average. Read that against the grants and the picture is stark. Five credits is the bottom of the range for one simple project. A Premium subscriber can plausibly spend the entire allowance producing a single site and have nothing left.

Brackets: Hostinger's own rule of thumb for what a project uses. Credits do not refill; more are bought as top-ups.
Fifteen credits on Unlimited is more comfortable but not generous. It is one simple site with room to iterate, or one attempt at something more ambitious. If your mental model was an AI assistant sitting alongside you for four years, adjust it: this is a starter grant designed to get you through the first build.
What top-ups cost
Hostinger states that topping up is quick and easy when you need more. It did not publish a top-up price on any of the pages checked on 20 September 2026, so no figure is quoted here. That absence is itself worth planning around: if the AI mode is central to why you are buying, you are committing to a term without knowing what the ongoing cost of using it will be. Check the top-up pricing inside the account before you rely on it.
The sources disagree about agent credits
Hostinger's own page gives Cloud Startup twenty Hostinger Agent credits and makes no mention of agent credits on Unlimited. An independent pricing table compiled in August 2026 instead lists fifty agent credits on Unlimited and one hundred on Cloud Startup. Those cannot both be current. The figures used across this site follow the vendor's own, because they are the conservative ones and it is better to under-promise. If agent credits are material to your decision, treat every published number — including these — as provisional and read the plan comparison at the moment of purchase.
How to not waste them
The single biggest saving is to stop treating the chat as an editor. Every conversational adjustment is a credit event; every equivalent adjustment in the drag-and-drop editor is free. Moving a section, changing a colour, swapping an image, rewriting a heading — all of these are trivial by hand and all of them cost you when asked for by prompt.
- Write the brief before the first prompt. Page list, what the business does, who it serves, the tone. One complete instruction beats five corrective ones, and the difference is billed.
- Generate once, refine by hand. Use the credits for the part that is hard from nothing — structure — and your own time for the part that is easy.
- Do not experiment on the live project. If you want to see what the generator does with a vague prompt, you are paying tuition. Decide what you want first.
- Use the free testing, if it is offered when you look. Hostinger currently advertises five free credits for trying the conversational mode without a card — that is a whole Premium allowance, spent before you have committed to anything.
What happens when they run out
Nothing dramatic, which is the reassuring part. Running out of credits does not disable your site, lock the editor or affect anything you have already published. The drag-and-drop builder continues to work exactly as before, indefinitely, at no additional cost. What you lose is the ability to ask the chat for more generation until you top up.
That is worth stating plainly because the word credit carries an alarming implication in other contexts — running out of hosting resources or email sends has consequences. Here it does not. The credits are attached to one optional feature, and the feature is a shortcut rather than a dependency. Somebody who never touches the AI mode at all loses nothing they paid for, because the plan price is the same either way and the credits are described as a gift rather than an entitlement you are funding.
The practical consequence is that you should spend the initial grant early and deliberately. Credits that sit unused for three years have done nothing for you, and there is no indication they expire or accumulate value. Use them on the build, get the structure you want, then work by hand.
Should credits decide your plan?
Rarely. The gap between Premium and Unlimited is ten credits, and the gap on everything else is much larger: store features, unlimited sites, unlimited mailboxes, the Reach email tool. Premium is $2.99 a month introductory and renews at $10.99; Unlimited is $3.99 and renews at $16.99. You are choosing between those on capability, and the credits are a rounding detail inside that decision. The full plan and renewal grid sets out what else changes with the tier.
The exception is if you genuinely intend to build applications rather than pages. Hostinger's own estimate of fifteen-plus credits for a complex web app means a single serious project consumes an entire Unlimited grant. In that scenario the credits are not a rounding detail, they are the recurring cost of the product, and you need the top-up price before you commit to a four-year term.
The honest summary
The credits are a real inclusion and they are smaller than the marketing energy around AI implies. Five is enough to build one simple site once. Fifteen is enough to build one and change your mind. Neither is an ongoing capability, and neither should be the reason you pick a plan or a term. Treat them as a welcome gift that gets you through setup, and plan the rest of your four years around the drag-and-drop editor, which costs nothing to use and never runs out. The wider assessment of what the product is worth sits in the Hostinger Website Builder review.
